BECY Summer School 2015

The BECY Summer School 2015 is over...

Participants of the BECY Summer School 2015 with BECY Lecturers of the University of Sao Paulo

After three weeks of Summer School in very hot and summery Germany the feedback of the participants was without exception positive! 17 students from the BECY partner universities in Brazil, Mexico, Denmark and Canada and from the University of Hohenheim participated in this year’s BECY Summer School in Hohenheim. In the three week program the students got insights into the different areas of the bio-based economy. Topics covered were amongst others bioenergy, national systems of bioeconomics, food science as well as socio-economic impacts of the bioeconomy.

The participants spent the first two weeks in Hohenheim, where they learned a lot about the different aspects of the bio-based economy during lectures, group works and practical exercises.

The group spent the third week at the research station Ihinger Hof. There the students could in addition to the lectures gain some practical experience in the cultivation of energy plants.

The program was supplemented by different excursions, during which the participants could learn a lot about innovation, entrepreneurship and culture in and around Stuttgart as well as about the different research stations of the University of Hohenheim.

Since bio-based economy is a diversified field, each participant could detect his or her own field of interest in the program and could at the same time get to know a lot of new aspects. The students enjoyed the international encounters during the Summer School, both with the other participants and with the lecturers, who came not only from Hohenheim but also from the other BECY partner universities.
